FANCY 50/30 is a pendant lamp with a cylindrical shade 50 cm across and 30 cm tall, covered in a mirrored foil in a chrome colour. The shade is open at the bottom, and the canopy and the suspension tube carry the same chrome. How big the shade is and where it hangs 50 cm across is markedly more than the 40 cm at which a shade keeps proportion over an 80–90 cm table. FANCY 50/30 is therefore a fitting for a wider top, or for a table above which it hangs on its own rather than in a row. The manufacturer gives a suspension length of 120 cm. Over a table the bottom edge of the shade is usually set 70–80 cm above the top — with a 75 cm top that is roughly 145–155 cm above the floor, and that is the figure to compare with your own ceiling height. The fitting weighs 1.02 kg. How it looks switched off and switched on The manufacturer describes the surface of the shade as mirror-like while the light is off and partially transparent while it is lit. Switched off, the lamp is a polished cylinder reflecting the room around it; switched on, the outline of the bulb starts to show through the foil. The shade is open at the bottom, so the main output falls straight below the fitting — onto the top or onto the floor. It is bright under the lamp, and the walls only get what bounces back off the surface beneath it. Which bulb to buy There is one lampholder with an E27 thread, for which the manufacturer states a maximum of 15 W in LED form. No bulb is supplied, so colour and brightness are chosen at purchase — over a table the usual choice is 2700–3000 K, that is warm light. The fitting is described as dimmable provided a suitable light source is used: dimming depends on a bulb marked as dimmable and on a dimmer, and neither is included.
