Colman is a single-light pendant with a steel dome shade 34.5 cm across. The outside is finished in matt black, while the inside is covered in gold leaf that is fully visible when you look up at the fitting. It hangs from a black chain ending in a round ceiling cup. How big it is and how high it hangs At 34.5 cm in diameter the shade keeps its proportions over a table 80–90 cm wide, over a kitchen island, or on its own above a coffee table in a living room. The overall height falls between 29 and 85 cm and is set before installation by taking chain links out; the manufacturer asks for at least 10 cm between the ceiling cup and the top of the lamp holder. The fitting weighs 1.2 kg, so the load on the ceiling is small — a metal mounting bracket is supplied and screws to the ceiling, and the cup covers it together with the wiring connection. The shade is opaque and sends all the light downwards, onto the surface below. The gold interior stays visible with the lamp switched on and gives the rim of the shade a warm sheen. The light can be dimmed, but that needs a dimmer and a lamp described as dimmable — the fitting itself carries no electronics. A plain dome with no ornament, a visible chain and matt black are industrial and loft traits — the pendant sits well with wood, brick and concrete finishes, and the gold interior softens that combination. Build and connection The whole body — shade, ceiling cup and chain — is steel. The light runs on 230 V and is built to protection class I, so the circuit needs an earth conductor and an earthed connection is a condition of correct installation.
