Berit I surface-mounted square downlight aluminium GU10 max 50 W

Berit I is a square ceiling fitting mounted on the surface — an aluminium cube 8.8 cm to a side and 9.3 cm tall, screwed to the ceiling and standing proud of it by its full height. A tilting ring with a GU10 lampholder is set into the bottom face, recessed into the body. How much room it takes and how it is fitted The fitting needs no hole cut in the ceiling — it is fixed to the surface, so it also suits ceilings with no void above them for a recessed luminaire. The cube covers 8.8 × 8.8 cm of ceiling and drops 9.3 cm below it, worth comparing with the room height and with how low a fitting may hang over a walkway. The fitting weighs 480 g and the parcel 0.52 kg. The body is aluminium with a brushed finish, and the screw visible on the side gives access to the inside when wiring it up. Which light source to buy The fitting takes one GU10 lamp and no bulb is included — colour temperature, output and beam angle are chosen with the lamp. The manufacturer gives 50 W as the maximum lamp power, not the fitting's own draw; with today's GU10 LED reflectors the actual consumption is a fraction of that. It runs directly on 230 V, so no transformer is needed and none is supplied. Dimming depends entirely on the lamp: the manufacturer states the fitting dims with a suitable light source, meaning a lamp described as dimmable and a dimmer matched to it. How the light is aimed The ring holding the lamp tilts through 25° and turns through 355°, effectively all the way round its own axis. One point in the ceiling can therefore light a surface off to the side — a picture, a worktop or a shelf — instead of only shining straight down. The direction is set after mounting, but is worth deciding first, because it governs where the fitting goes. Berit I carries a single lamp; in the same family the manufacturer also offers two- and three-lamp versions in a longer housing.
