Sun King is a wall light in the shape of a sun: several dozen gilded rods of varying length radiate from a black square backplate, with cut spikes of K9 crystal glass set between them. At the centre, on a curved arm, stands an open lampholder for a candle bulb. The whole thing is 31.8 cm wide and 30.5 cm tall, standing 12.7 cm off the wall.Gold leaf — why two examples are never identical The finish is gold leaf laid onto metal — not paint and not a sputtered coating. Close up it shows: the surface is uneven, rubbed through in places, with faint variations in tone and visible boundaries between the sheets. That is a property of the technique rather than a fault; it gives the gold depth instead of a plastic look, but it also means no two pieces will look exactly alike.K9 crystal Cut elements of K9 glass are distributed among the rods — an optical glass with a higher refractive index than ordinary glass, so it splits light more strongly at the cut edges. Arranged around the light source, they catch the output from different angles and throw moving highlights onto the wall.The bulb is visible — and that changes the choice The E14 holder is uncovered, so the bulb is part of the composition. None is supplied, and the maximum is 40 W. What suits this shape is a decorative candle lamp with a visible filament in a warm colour; an ordinary opal bulb reads here as an accident. The fitting has no dimmer of its own — dimming works only with a dimmable lamp wired to an external dimmer.Installation and purpose The construction is steel, protection class I, so an earth conductor has to be connected — installation is an electrician's job. It is for interior use only and weighs 1.04 kg. At 40 W from a single lamp, Sun King is a lit decoration rather than room lighting: it works in pairs in a dining room, beside a mirror, in a hall, or as an accent on a chimney breast.
