PLATO is an aluminium profile for LED strips, made to be plastered in between two plasterboard sheets. This item is a 2 m length (2.02 m exactly) in a black lacquered finish, 67.2 mm wide and 14.6 mm high. Installation with no visible frame The side flanges are screwed to the structure and then covered with filler — the manufacturer states that no reinforcing mesh is needed for this. Once filled, no housing shows on the surface; only the light slot remains. It is a recessed solution planned together with the plasterboard build: the profile has to go in while the boards are being fitted and cannot be added after painting. The light leaves perpendicular to the plane of the structure. Dimensions and the strips it takes The flanges span 67.2 mm, the body itself measures 27.2 mm and the internal channel 20.8 mm — that is the figure to compare with your strip's width. The manufacturer allows two LED strips of 12 mm each, side by side: hence the double profile, and the option of running two circuits in one slot, for instance in different colour temperatures. The aluminium takes heat away from the strips, and the manufacturer states the limit for that work: 33.2 W of dissipated power at a profile temperature of 55 °C and 45.0 W at 65 °C. Put those numbers next to the wattage of the strip you plan to fit. What you buy separately The profile ships on its own. The DOUBLE cover, the strip, the end caps and the driver are separate purchases, and the driver sits outside the profile by design — it needs a place of its own. Covers for PLATO come transparent, frosted, milky, matt milky, opal and black, and the plastic end caps have a marked knock-out for the cable. The profile cannot be sealed — the manufacturer gives IP20, so dry interiors only. Length and joining The length is 2.02 m. The manufacturer notes that PLATO lengths cannot be joined to one another, so a longer continuous line of light is ordered as a single piece — made to order up to 6 m.Show more
