Aver 50 is a Design For The People pendant with an open shade built from curved metal rods, in black RAL 9005. The 50 cm shade does not cover the source — the bulb is visible between the rods and throws a pattern of shadows onto the ceiling and walls. Designed by Carlo Volf. How big it is and how it hangs The shade measures 50 cm across against an overall fitting height of 54.2 cm. That diameter keeps its proportions over a table 80–90 cm wide; the drop is usually set so the lower edge of the shade sits 70–80 cm above the tabletop. The cable is 300 cm long with a black textile braid, and the canopy is 11.8 cm across. The manufacturer states the fitting is not suitable for hook suspension — it mounts directly to the ceiling. The lamp weighs 2.82 kg and is electrical class II, so it needs no earth conductor. The cable cannot be replaced. What light it gives The fitting takes one E27 source of up to 60 W. No bulb is included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself — and because the source is on show, its shape and the way it glows are part of how the lamp looks. Light leaves both straight out through the gaps between the rods and downwards below the shade, while the rods cast a regular pattern of shadows on the surfaces around. The lamp can be dimmed, but that takes a dimmable bulb and a dimmer — the fitting has no control of its own. Construction The structure is metal with plastic components. The shade is formed of vertical, bowed rods spaced around the circumference, which keeps the form visually light despite the 50 cm diameter. The fitting is intended for indoor use.Show more
