The Times Square O580WL-L6B is a black outdoor wall light with a wedge-shaped body: 20 cm tall, 9 cm wide and standing 9 cm off the wall at its thickest point, tapering to a thin edge. The wedge is open at both ends, so light leaves it through two slots and lands on the wall above and below the fitting. What this fitting is for, and what it is not The manufacturer classes it as architectural lighting for decorative wall illumination. Its output is 100 lm from 6 W, an amount closer to a small orientation light than to a lantern. It draws a bright field on a facade and marks a direction, but it will not light a driveway or a work spot against the wall. The beam angle is 120 degrees, so the pool of light is wide and runs close to the render. The nearer to the wall it is mounted, the more sharply it traces the surface texture. The conditions it may work in An IP54 rating means protection against dust and against splashing water from any direction, which is the level meant for a wall exposed to rain. The manufacturer gives an operating range of –40 to +50 degrees Celsius, so the fitting stays outside all year. The luminaire is protection class I, which means an earth conductor has to reach the back box. Where only line and neutral have been run to that point, the wiring has to be extended before the fitting goes up. Light source and control The LED module is built in permanently and the manufacturer rates it for 50,000 hours without replacement, so there is no socket here and no bulb to buy. The colour temperature is 3200 K, a warm white with a slightly neutral cast, and the colour rendering index is 80 Ra. The fitting is not dimmable and runs on ordinary 220–240 V, 50 Hz mains.
