Q-KALINA 6503-16 is a round ceiling light from the Q series by Paul Neuhaus, 50 cm across and only 5.5 cm deep, screwed flat to the ceiling. The white metal body carries two translucent rings — an outer rim and a smaller circle in the middle — through which RGB diodes shine. The light source is permanently built in. Size and mounting The fitting covers a 50 cm circle on the ceiling and stands 5.5 cm below it, so it does not drop the room in a way that would show under a low ceiling. It weighs 3.475 kg, a load the ceiling fixing has to carry; boxed it is 4.496 kg. The fitting is meant for dry interiors only: IP20 and protection class II, so no earth conductor is needed. It runs on ordinary 230 V. How much light it really gives The maker publishes two figures and it is worth telling them apart. The LED module is rated 4450 lm raw, but 2700 lm leaves the fitting once the light has passed the diffuser — the number to plan a room's lighting from. The whole fitting draws 41 W, of which 36 W is the module. 2700 lm is roughly three old 60 W bulbs, so this works as the main light of a normally sized room rather than as a supplement. The light spreads wide from the flat disc, with no pronounced cone. Light colour and colours The white can be set steplessly from 2700 K, warm light with a yellow tone, up to 5000 K cool white. The remote has separate buttons for 2700, 3000, 4000 and 5000 K, so reaching a frequently used setting does not mean scrolling the whole range. Independently of the white, the fitting lights in RGB colours: a colour is picked on the remote, an automatic colour change can be started and stopped again. Pre-programmed lighting scenes are also available. Remote and control An infrared remote is included and controls switching, brightness, colour temperature and colours. Dimming is done from that remote rather than from a wall dimmer. The memory function restores the last setting after a disconnection from mains, so after a power cut it comes back the way it was. The fitting works on the ZigBee standard and can be added to a smart home — Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant both support it. Phone control needs a third-party ZigBee gateway; the remote itself works with no further installation.Show more
