FIALE 4LED is a square recessed downlight for a suspended ceiling. What shows below the ceiling is an 80 × 80 mm frame: an aluminium bezel, a green ring inside it and, in the centre, a black field with four LED lenses arranged in a square. Springs on the sides of the body hold the fitting in the cut-out. How much room it needs in the ceiling The face measures 80 × 80 mm and the body reaches 40 mm into the ceiling — compare that second figure with the free space above your own plasterboard, because it decides whether the fitting will go in at all. The mounting springs fold out sideways, so taking it out and putting it back needs no tools. The driver is supplied with the fitting, which runs straight off 230 V at 50 Hz, drawing 4 W at 40 mA. There is no separate power supply or transformer to buy. What light it gives Four diodes produce 450 lm together, which at 4 W works out at 112 lm/W. The light leaves in a 30° beam, that is a narrow one: the fitting puts a defined pool of light on a worktop or a floor rather than lifting the whole room. Several units are usually set in a row above whatever is to be lit. 3000 K is warm white, close to the old incandescent lamp, and Ra 80 is enough for utility rooms but not for places where colours have to be judged precisely. The fitting cannot be dimmed — the brightness is fixed whatever sits in the wall box. Light source and operating conditions The diodes are built in permanently: there is no thread and no replaceable bulb, so once the module is spent the whole fitting is changed. The manufacturer states 17,000 h of life and 15,000 switching cycles, which counts where the light goes on many times a day. The housing is aluminium, the fitting is protection class II and needs no earth conductor. The operating range runs from −20 to +40 °C, and the manufacturer intends it for indoor mounting only.Show more
