The FLO Ruby M is a 138 cm floor lamp: a ruby-lacquered steel column 7.6 cm across stands on a round base and carries a shade of white opal glass in a flattened, bulbous shape. The colour named in the code belongs to the metal — the glass is white on every variant in the collection. How much floor it occupies The base is a disc 30 cm across and 3 cm thick — it lies flat against a wall or under the edge of a sofa and makes no lip to catch a foot on. The column itself is only 7.6 cm in diameter, so in plan the lamp takes less room than an ordinary side table. At 138 cm the shade sits above the head of someone seated on a sofa rather than at eye level. The whole lamp weighs 9.2 kg, most of it in the base — enough to hold the column upright, and enough that it moves with two hands. The glass and the light The shade measures 26 cm across and 14 cm high, and every piece is hand-blown at a Polish glassworks. Opal glass is milky right through: it glows evenly upward and sideways, with no visible filament point and no hard shadow under the shade. The socket takes one E14 thread with a 10 W limit for an LED lamp. Colour and brightness are therefore chosen together with the bulb — at that limit a living room usually takes a lamp with the output of an old 60 W bulb. The lamp runs on 230 V and carries IP20, so dry interiors only. The colour and the rest of the collection The ruby red matches RAL 3005 — a dark wine red, clearly deeper than a signal red. The contrast between it and the white glass is what the whole form rests on; besides ruby, the same body comes in mokka, sky, cream, grey and moss. The FLO collection was designed by Wojciech Błaszczyk of Sedno Studio, starting from the shape of a flower bud just before it opens.
