The Elstead ALDERLEY is a pendant with a shade of Tiffany-style leaded art glass. The shade is a shallow pyramid on a square 38 cm plan, the fitting itself is 23.3 cm tall, and the whole hangs on a chain from a square ceiling pan. One E27 socket rated to 60 W. The metalwork is finished in Vintage Bronze — a dark, rubbed bronze with art deco linework. The glass: opal white, cream and aqua The shade is assembled from individual pieces of glass set in metal came, panel by panel. Fields of opal white and cream dominate, cut through by narrow bands of aqua blue and inserts of textured glass. The manufacturer puts it plainly: when lit, the blue panels take on a deep aqua tone and the textured pieces sparkle. The pattern is geometric — straight lines, pronounced diagonals in the corners — closer to art deco than to the floral motifs usually associated with Tiffany. Because each shade is assembled by hand, small differences in tone and in the run of the glass are a property of the object, not a fault. The pull cord — the detail that changes how it is used A cord with a brass acorn hangs from the lower edge of the shade: the lamp has its own switch and can be turned on and off independently of the wall switch. That saves the situation where no separate circuit was run to the table — the fitting stays live and is operated at the lamp itself. It does need factoring into the hanging height: the cord has to stay within reach. The light and where it belongs The shade is open at the bottom and only shallowly pitched, so the light goes mainly downward, onto the table top. The opal glass diffuses it softly, while a warm glow passes through the coloured panels and paints the walls and ceiling — the characteristic leaded-glass effect and the main reason for buying a lamp like this. At 38 cm across with a single light source, ALDERLEY is a fitting for one specific place: over a dining table, over a kitchen island, over a reading corner. Suspension and height 1500 mm of chain is supplied, and the drop ranges from 32.8 to 182.8 cm. The manufacturer notes that the height is set on installation — by removing surplus chain links; it is not adjusted afterwards in daily use. Over a dining table the usual figure is 70–90 cm from the table top to the bottom edge of the shade. Installation and electrical data The fitting is Class I, so it requires an earth conductor; mains supply 220–240 V, 50 Hz. The manufacturer designates it for interior use only — no IP rating is quoted, so it has no place above a bath, in a shower enclosure or outdoors. No lamp is included. The fitting has no dimming circuit of its own but is compatible with dimmable lamps: adjusting brightness needs a wall dimmer and a dimmable bulb, both bought separately.
